Merrill anti-freeze winter taps
The main danger for complex structures and water supply systems in places where water supply is established with the help of artesian wells is cold winters. When there is a very high probability that water may freeze in some node due to low temperature, and then water cannot be used until the onset of summer.
The “weak point” in the plumbing system is the external stopcocks, in which the remaining water freezes in the cold.

So the world's leading companies - manufacturers of equipment for artesian wells - are making serious efforts in order to find the most practical and effective way out of the situation.
For the development of such units of the artesian water supply system, which would not care even for the world-famous Russian frosts.
And first of all, special attention is paid to non-freezing taps, as the weakest point subject to icing in the water supply system. The world's leading manufacturers offer a great variety of options for dealing with this phenomenon, however, Merrill's non-freezing taps, the mechanism of which has, one might say, a dual antifreeze protection system, turned out to be the most practical and effective.
The world's leading manufacturers offer a great variety of options for combating this phenomenon, but Merrill's non-freezing taps, the mechanism of which has, one might say, a dual anti-freeze system, turned out to be the most practical and effective.
The device is simple but extremely effective.
So how does Merrill's ice-free watering faucet work? In fact, everything is very simple.
- He has a very long nose, in which only the tip is "overboard". The rest of the tap is hidden in the thickness of the wall, and the locking mechanism is generally located in a heated (usually residential) room. That's all. And no matter how cold it is in the yard, they are unlikely to be able to get to the “weak” place - the locking mechanism in a warm living room.
- The design that Merrill engineers developed, offering consumers an ice-free garden faucet, is designed in such a way that the long spout, most of which is embedded in the wall, is not horizontally located in the thickness, but with a slight downward slope. The effect is that the remaining water after closing the locking mechanism simply drains from the pipe to the very last drop. In fact, there is simply nothing to freeze and form an ice plug.
In fact, the winter faucet from the world famous manufacturer of plumbing equipment, Merrill, despite the simplicity (one might even say primitiveness) of its design, turns out to be the height of engineering, which allows you to effectively deal with the danger of freezing of residual water in faucets located outside the house, even if there are unprecedented frosts outside .

garden tap
Garden faucet (valve) - an important element in the water system of a country house
When designing and building a country, garden or country house, it is necessary to carefully consider the water supply system. One of the important elements is a water point on the street - a garden tap or a garden valve.
Regardless of whether it will be used for watering plants or for other household needs, a garden tap must unquestioningly obey not only the owner of the house, but also other people.
The comfort both outside and inside the house depends on the trouble-free operation of this small element.
Garden water valves
The table below shows brief descriptions of non-freezing garden valves from our product range.
Frost-free garden taps Mora Armatur |
Garden faucets Mora Garden II, produced by the Swedish company Mora Armatur, are equipped with a built-in check valve with protection against re-sucking water. Mora Garden II is easy to install and very reliable in operation. If you turn off the water and remove the hose with the connection, Mora Garden II will automatically drain the remaining water, thereby ensuring frost resistance. Mora Armatur produces various modifications of anti-freeze garden valves:
To shut off the water, use a special removable square key or a metal handle included in the Mora Garden II delivery. To limit the circle of people who can use the garden tap, you can buy a lockable handle with a lock and a key (Mora Armatur 409213.AE). |
Antifreeze garden valves Oras |
The Finnish company Oras produces anti-freeze valves for a water column, which, thanks to a special design, are not afraid of frost; in addition, they can be used all year round. All valves are made of copper and brass and are designed for pressures up to 10 bar:
The ease of installation and operation, as well as the reliability of Oras garden taps, have made them popular in private country houses and summer cottages. |
When choosing a garden faucet, it is necessary that the length of the nozzle exceeds the thickness of the wall by several centimeters. It is advisable to mount the garden tap in such a way that it protrudes slightly from the outside of the building: it is more convenient to connect and remove the watering hose.
How to install a non-freezing country tap
Before installing a garden faucet, it is necessary to thoroughly flush the pipeline, clearing it of sand, steel chips and other contaminants. In addition, it is necessary to provide sedimentation tanks that prevent the penetration of foreign objects into the pipes.
To install a garden valve, drill a hole in the wall through which you plan to drain water. The diameter of the hole should be 1-2 mm larger than the diameter of the valve branch pipe. It is recommended to drill a hole with a slope of 1-2° down to the outside, to facilitate the flow of water from the faucet.
Then securely fix the faucet with wall gaskets and connect to the water supply.
The garden valve is ready for the hard work!
