It is difficult to imagine a modern home that is not equipped with filter systems or household appliances for water purification. There are many types of such devices, each of which performs its own function - from the rough removal of mechanical impurities (sand, rust, etc.) to bacterial disinfection and subsequent mineralization. With all the variety of such devices, the most technologically advanced among the main-type devices is considered to be a titanium filter for water purification.
The device is built into the water supply system after the obligatory adaptation of coarse filtration and provides a high degree of purification. In addition, the titanium cartridge is famous for its antibacterial liquid treatment.
What is good about titanium?
Titanium is a biologically inert, non-toxic material that is in demand in various fields: many industries, medicine, and pharmaceuticals. The discovery of titanium's disinfectant and antibacterial properties led it to food production, and the development of processing technologies over time made it possible to include titanium elements in household appliances.
The efficiency of products made from this metal is also explained by high corrosion resistance and the ability to adjust the size of the porosity of the structure without loss of strength, which directly affects the filtration process.
Scientists have proven that titanium ions, which have a high bactericidal activity, are able to cope with more than 700 types of bacteria, fungi and viruses.
Also, scientific research has completely debunked the myth about the toxicity of titanium compounds. Particles of this metal, when ingested, do not cause disturbances and do not accumulate in it.
Titanium filter device
Titanium filter is one of the types of main systems for fine cleaning, in the device of which there is nothing super complicated. It is a structure of the following blocks:
- head part (cover), which is built into the water supply;
- a flask with a filter element - a titanium cartridge;
- removable glass equipped with a tap for flushing and draining waste into the sewer.
Filter elements can be made from:
- porous titanium;
- with the application of titanium on a special substrate.
Let's take a closer look at the second technology.
In a vacuum chamber, titanium particles are deposited layer by layer on the polymer base under the influence of an electric field. The resulting membrane is the finest hairs made of structured metal, which provide high quality water purification.
Principle of operation
The device is built into the plumbing system and converts running water, previously purified from coarse impurities (sand, silt, scale, etc.), into suitable for food needs.
The filtering “brush” of the membrane retains contaminants: small, but “heavy” impurities, such as particles of oxidized iron with a size of 0.5 microns. As they accumulate, they precipitate and are completely removed during maintenance of the device.
The active form of titanium during the cleaning process adsorbs pathogenic microorganisms and bacteria, which provides a disinfectant effect.
Filter module regeneration
The possibility of repeated restoration of the filter block is an important advantage of the titanium filter.
1st way
Almost all models of the device are equipped with a backwash function using a water hammer. A reverse flow of water is supplied to the membrane for 3-4 seconds, which washes away the accumulated contaminants. When the drain valve is opened, the waste is discharged into the sewer.
2nd way
Experts recommend, together with the backwash of the titanium cartridge, to carry out additional regeneration by etching with citric acid once a year.
To do this, the body of the unit is carefully disassembled, the filter element is removed and immersed in a 10% solution of citric acid for a day. Then all components are washed with running water and assembled in reverse order.
Advice! Despite the increased strength of titanium sputtering, it is not worth rubbing dirt from its surface by hand. Microcracks and scratches will degrade the filtration quality.
Due to the low adhesion of the titanium layer, which “repels” foreign impurities from itself, the cells are completely cleaned, which ensures a long service life of the filter module.
According to the manufacturer, the resource of the titanium membrane is designed for approximately 1000 washes. In reality, with regeneration once a week, the service life will exceed 10 years.
Advantages
Manufacturers claim the following advantages of titaniummain filter, due to the physicochemical properties of the metal:
- High degree of purification (up to 0.1 micron), complex physical and bacteriological interaction. They allow you to get clean, but not distilled water.
- The titanium membrane does not corrode, is resistant to pressure, vibration, temperature changes, and damage by abrasive particles.
- Increased productivity, the approximate filtered volume of liquid is up to 1.3 m3/hour.
- Multiple automated regeneration of the cleaning module.
- No maintenance costs, more than 10 years service life.
Conclusion
Judging by the feedback from consumers and the results of laboratory tests before and after the installation of filter systems with a titanium module, the resulting water meets the stated requirements. For example, the iron content becomes two times lower than the MPC, and pathogenic bacteria and E. coli are absent. Due to the physical and chemical properties of titanium, such devices are able to qualitatively filter water coming from wells and open sources.
