You can protect the room from direct sunlight and from prying eyes in different ways. Standard solutions in the form of curtains and curtains do not suit all owners, because textiles do not always fit into the interior of a modern room, take up space, and collect dust. All these shortcomings are deprived of blinds, which have long moved from office premises to apartments and have a wide variety of types for every taste. If you do not dare to buy blinds just because you do not know how they are attached to modern double-glazed windows and whether it is possible to drill plastic windows, you can safely go to the store. Let's find out how to hang blinds with your own hands, without resorting to the help of specialists.
Varieties of blinds
The method of fastening the blinds is largely determined by their design. Blinds are:
- Ordinary, consisting of individual slats (lamellae). Such products can be in three modes: fully closed, partially open (the lamellas turn edge to the plane of the window) and fully open (the lamellas are turned and assembled into one stack). According to the location of the lamellae, there are two types of such blinds:
vertical - in the assembled state are located on the side;
horizontal - the slats rise up when opened.
- Roll. Such blinds are a single sheet and are often called roller blinds. When fully or partially opened, they are collected at the top in a roll. The design of roller blinds is extremely simple, and often this is the most affordable and inexpensive option for darkening a room. Installing them with your own hands is much easier than other types of blinds.
- Pleated. Usually made of plastic or fabric impregnated with a special compound that provides strength. When opened, such curtains are assembled into an accordion.
The material from which vertical, horizontal and roller blinds are made can be different: plastic, wood, fabric, bamboo, aluminum. Deciding which model to hang and what material to prefer should be based on the characteristics of the interior of the room and personal preferences.
Horizontal aluminum or plastic blinds are a classic, the most common model that is perfect for both home and office space. If you install vertical blinds with your own hands, they will adequately replace curtains or curtains in the room. Rolled fabric models look very nice, which will help emphasize the individuality of the room.
Sizing
In order to qualitatively hang blinds with your own hands, you need to correctly determine their size. This procedure is slightly more complicated than when determining the amount of material for ordinary curtains, and has some differences for blinds of various designs. The place where the blinds are attached also affects their size. It could be:
- opening,
- wall,
- window frame.
The latter option is the most popular, besides, it allows you to win space in the room. Hanging the product in this way with your own hands will not be difficult.
Regardless of which model is chosen (horizontal, vertical or roll), the design must completely cover the glass of the window. When fastening the blinds directly to the window, their length should be slightly greater than the height of the glass, and in width they should also go beyond the borders of the double-glazed window.
Important! The sun protection structure attached to the window must not interfere with the free opening of the window. Blinds on the blind part of the window can not be fixed from below, if their design does not require it, but on the sash, fastening in the lower part is necessary.
If the brackets are attached to a wall or ceiling, the length and width of the blinds increase. They can close only the plastic window itself, the entire window opening, or go down to the floor. In this way, you can hang vertical blinds.
Roll-type structures are usually mounted directly on the window frame. If you fasten such curtains differently, they may interfere with the opening of the window. Do-it-yourself installation is usually not difficult.
Choice of installation method for horizontal and roller blinds
Manufacturers offer various mounting methods. All of them should be described in the attached instructions. You can choose from the following options:
- Hang the blinds on high-quality double-sided tape.
- Fasten blinds or curtains to the top of the frame using special brackets or clips.
- Fix the structure with self-tapping screws.
The first two methods are optimal for lightweight structures, fabric roller blinds, pleated blinds, but each has its drawbacks. Double-sided adhesive tape loses its properties over time, this happens especially quickly if the window is located on the sunny side and is exposed to strong heating from the sun's rays. Fastening by the upper part is possible only on opening leaves and is associated with a risk of damage to the sealing gum.
The most durable and reliable is the drilling method, which allows you to fix the brackets with self-tapping screws and is suitable even for heavy wooden or metal structures.
Drilling method
The algorithm of actions when choosing this method will be as follows:
- To begin with, you can unpack the product and carefully study the instructions. To hang blinds with your own hands, you need to understand all the features of their fastening and installation, otherwise problems may arise in the process of the latter.
- You need to install brackets on the top bar of the product, attach it to the frame and mark the attachment points with a pencil. In this case, it is necessary to use the level: any distortion will immediately be evident.
- In order to prevent displacement of the upper bar, before installing it, it is necessary to make holes in the marked places with a thin drill. The depth of the holes is about 1.5 mm. This procedure will also help keep the plastic from cracking when drilling.
- Now you can remove the brackets from the bar and fix them with self-tapping screws on the window profile.
The less self-tapping screws are used to fasten the brackets, the better - this minimizes the risk of violating the tightness of the plastic window. At the same time, we must not forget about the reliability of fastening. With careful work, the thermal insulation of the window profile will not be disturbed; for complete certainty, you can fill the holes with acrylic sealant.
- On the fixed brackets you need to hang a container with lamellas. Ideally, he should take off and put on without much difficulty.
- After checking the correct installation, for which the blinds must be closed, the container is finally fixed with latches.
- On the bottom of the window, the lower holders are attached in the same way. They are needed so that the slats do not sway when opening or closing the window sash. It is necessary to mark the attachment points of the holders with a stretched web of planks.
If the window is deaf, and there are no drafts in the room, there is no need for lower holders.
Features of fastening vertical blinds
Blinds with vertical slats are usually mounted on the ceiling or wall: a sufficiently large width of the slats may not allow them to open freely when mounted on the frame. Fastening is done with dowels.
Vertical models, as a rule, are delivered unassembled. Assembling them with your own hands is usually not a problem. The slats are inserted into the runners until a characteristic click is heard. For convenience, it is better to turn the sliders with special recesses towards you, having previously assembled them together. At the bottom of the slats, weights are installed, for fixing which a special chain is used.
Hanging any type of blinds on a plastic window with your own hands is not so difficult. It's important to do this carefully. Regular maintenance of blinds will allow them to serve for a long time without losing their qualities.
