One of the most popular "natural" styles at the moment, which wonderfully balances the natural atmosphere and the modern approach to life, is Scandinavian style. The abundance of light and free space, ergonomics and naturalness of materials are exactly what a Scandinavian-style bedroom attracts connoisseurs of comfort.
Characteristic features of the Scandinavian style
Minimalism and originality - these are the two conditions that distinguish Scandinavian from any other areas of interior design. How can these two parameters be combined in one interior? Very simple: in Scandinavia, where this style came from, and in the northern latitudes in general, people have to save space, heat and sunlight. So, the interior of the bedroom in this style should provide the most comfortable rest.
A small bedroom or living room will look especially advantageous in Scandinavian style. Saving space and visually expanding the walls is a big plus for the design of a cramped room.
Scandinavian bedroom color scheme
The Scandinavian style in the interior of the bedroom is distinguished by the use of predominantly light shades. Most often, the base color is white, various pastel colors are added to it, for example, shades of beige, light gray, cream, sand. The main condition is the naturalness of the color, the use of its natural shades.
So that the room does not seem too cold, warm shades and small bright accents are added to the color scheme. It can be peach linens or light beige tulle, flowering plants in clay pots on the windowsill. If you want to enhance the “snowy” effect, add contrasting details, such as black photo frames on a white wall.
Walls
The walls are mostly painted in white. It is allowed to use photo wallpapers or bright prints only on the wall to which the base of the bed adjoins. This allows you to visually push the walls of the room.
An alternative to wallpaper for Scandinavian style in the bedroom is imitation of white brickwork, the creation of a wooden texture, or pastel patterns applied using a stencil. Window frames and doors are also usually painted white.
Floor and ceiling
The floors in the relaxation room are decorated in any light, soothing colors. It can be light gray or beige carpet, light laminate or just a whitewashed board. But it is customary to make the ceiling perfectly white, creating the effect of additional illumination. At the same time, it is undesirable to use curly ceilings, because the main thing in the Scandinavian style is simplicity.
Scandinavian Style Bedroom Materials
Bedroom design in the Scandinavian style is based primarily on the use of natural, environmentally friendly materials. For example, these could be:
- Natural woods in light colors. This material is perfect for decorating floors in a Scandinavian-style bedroom. Photos on the walls can be framed in raw wood frames, and it can also become an additional accent in the decoration of one of the walls of the room.
- A natural stone. Despite the fact that masonry is usually used for exterior decoration, its use in the bedroom will be an original solution. As in other cases, the stone can highlight the wall behind the headboard or frame the room around the perimeter of the floor.
- Textile. Linen, cotton, wool, chiffon and even coarse calico - these fabrics are perfect for decorating a Scandinavian bedroom. Bed linen, bedspreads, blankets, furniture upholstery and curtains must be made of natural materials.
- Leather, fur.Genuine leather can also be used in furniture decoration. Also, the decoration of the room will be a real soft skin, laid by the bed. If you do not like the idea of the naturalness of these materials, it is allowed to use artificial counterparts.
The combination of raw, rough textures of wood and stone, combined with soft natural fabrics, will create a truly original atmosphere in your bedroom.
Scandinavian bedroom lighting
Since northerners rarely see warm sunlight, they always try to ensure its abundance in their homes. Therefore, a Scandinavian-style bedroom is usually distinguished by the presence of large open windows and as little artificial lighting as possible. At the same time, lamps - chandeliers, floor lamps and table lamps - should emit light as close as possible to daylight.
Rustic handmade lamps will perfectly fit into the design of the Scandinavian bedroom.
Choice of furniture and decor
The main criteria for choosing bedroom furniture in this style are environmental friendliness of materials and functionality.
The central item in such a bedroom is a massive wooden bed with a comfortable mattress, large soft pillows and a blanket. A plus would be the presence in such a bed of drawers for storing linen.
On both sides of the bed and above it are usually placed wardrobes made of the same wood as the rest of the furniture. At the same time, open shelves in the Scandinavian style are rarely used, but chests of drawers and bedside tables attached to the bed will fit perfectly into this style.
It is best to choose furniture from northern woods, such as birch or pine.
If you are not able to leave the windows in the room open all the time, you can use light, light-transmitting curtains. Clay pots with herbs and flowers can be placed on the windowsill.
The Scandinavian-style bedroom is different in that it has few decor items. All things in the room should have certain functions and not take up too much space. This principle is a significant plus when decorating a small apartment, where every square meter is important.
Strict geometric lines also look good in this style. For example, a square rug in a contrasting color will add an extra touch to your bedroom.
Suitable for a Scandinavian-style bedroom, a photo or a panel depicting sea, mountain or forest landscapes. But you need to remember that too many photographs and paintings hanging on the wall will spoil the restrained minimalism of this style.
