Installation of HDPE pipes
Methods for mounting a low-pressure polyethylene pipe:
- Socket detachable - is used, as a rule, when installing sewers. Pipes are equipped with special extensions at the end (sockets), installation is carried out with the help of seals. One pipe is inserted into the socket of the other, thereby providing a sealed joint.
- Fitting - used in systems operating under minimal pressure. It is a clamp fitting, a pipe is inserted into it. With the help of a protracted force, the elements are fastened together. A more reliable connection than a socket connection, although it also applies to detachable ones.
- Electrofusion - connection of maximum strength, special fittings are welded to the pipe by a welding machine. Gives the greatest strength, which is required in pressure systems. It is carried out using a welding machine.
The industrial industry, in particular gas facilities, water supply, sewerage, and so on, are unthinkable without the use of pipes. For private communications, in municipal and state households, experts recommend the use of plastic pipes. The HDPE pipe has proven itself well for these purposes. What this is, we will consider in the following subsections.
Now let's figure out why it was the plastic pipe that passed many tests aimed at determining resistance to the influence of temperature, including very high, acidic substances, organics and solvents. The material passed all tests successfully, therefore it is recommended for use. What does the abbreviation hide in itself - HDPE pipe, what is it and why is it called that?
What are HDPE pipes
The decoding of the HDPE pipe can be designated as a pipe, for the manufacture of which low-pressure polyethylene is used. To date, pipes of this type have already thoroughly entered the repair and construction system almost everywhere. And this popularity is quite justified, their service life can be over fifty years. This is much longer than the duration of operation of similar pipes made of other materials.
Their area of appointment has a fairly wide range:
- In the installation of cold water transportation systems and other liquid formulations,
- Laying of gas pipelines (industrial and household),
- For the arrangement of networks and distributions of watering, sewer systems,
- They can be protection for power and communication lines, telephone cables and other communication systems,
- For domestic purposes, they are used, for example, as arcs for greenhouses and mortgages for electrical wiring.
Advantages of low density polyethylene for pipe production
- Ideal smoothness of surfaces, both internal and external,
- color constancy,
- Hygiene and ecological cleanliness, and, consequently, safety, both for a person and for his environment as a whole,
- Resistance to corrosion, scale formation, moisture, fungal diseases, bacteria, mold and other biological contamination,
- Full resistance to aggressive media: alkalis, acids and solvents, which is an important factor for the installation of sewers and technical drainage systems,
- The light stabilizers included in the material create reliable protection against the damaging effects of ultraviolet rays,
- resistance to deformations of various kinds,
- Ease of connecting work
To work on the installation of pipes of this type, special fittings are used. Connections can be made by couplings, detachable connections or welding. A characteristic feature of pipes made of this type of polyethylene is that, regardless of the connection method, a high-quality construction is obtained.
Basic designations in product names
Pipes made of low pressure polyethylene are marked at the top with a distance of up to one meter. The marking is accompanied by the name of the manufacturer or his trademark. They must be placed before the designation of the pipe, and after it comes the date of manufacture of the product. It is possible to apply additional information (for example, type of batch or line number). At the same time, the word "pipe" itself is not indicated in the designation.
The main designations of HDPE pipes include:
- Brand of polyethylene (for example, PE 63 or PE 100),
- Pipe series (strength class),
- The ratio of the diameter and wall thickness (numerical value),
- Scope of the product (technical or drinking),
- The standard according to which production was carried out (GOST)
Stripes of various colors are used for marking. This is done for the convenience of choosing a product (for example, blue - for transporting water, yellow - for gas pipelines)
Methods of production of products
Extrusion is used to make pipes. The polyethylene granules are placed in the extruder where they melt and pass further into the extrusion head area. In it, the material acquires the desired shape and specified dimensions. Calibration takes place in a special vacuum zone, where the initial cooling is also carried out. Further, with the help of a pulling device, the pipes are drawn and cut into products of a given length.
The final step is packaging. Pipes with a diameter of up to seventy-five millimeters and a length of one hundred to two hundred meters go to the bays. Products with a diameter of ninety to one hundred and ten millimeters are packed in coils of one hundred meters or delivered in a straight length. Pipes with a diameter of more than one hundred and ten millimeters can only be made in the form of straight segments.
Well-known manufacturers of HDPE pipes include:
- Holding "Polymer Pipeline Systems":
- Twins LLC,
- OOO APK,
- Plant Polymer-T,
- MetpromInteks company
What does the abbreviation stand for
These letters indicate the type of material from which the pipes are made. HDPE pipes can also be deciphered by technical variety. There are two positions that differ from each other in color:
- Longitudinal yellow (along the entire pipe) indicates that the material is intended for the construction of a gas pipeline.
- The blue stripe indicates that the pipes can be used in a plumbing device.
GOST products 18599-2001. If such a marking is present on the pipe, this indicates that the product is manufactured in accordance with the requirements of the technology, it will serve the period established by it, and meets all its inherent characteristics.
