Roller shutters are a raised canvas, assembled from lamellas, which is wound at the top on a shaft placed in a protective box. Inside this shaft there is a spring that balances the weight of the canvas, preventing the roller shutters from unwinding under their own weight in the absence of fixation.
Many manufacturers are unable to produce the correct mechanism, so they fix the roller shutters with an additional lock.

There are three main ways to install roller shutters:
- In the opening with a box inside;
- In the opening with the box out;
- "Inlay", box outside.
The installation method is chosen depending on the specific design of the opening.
Let's consider these methods in more detail.
The installation of roller shutters with the box inward into the opening is considered the most optimal, while it is important that the existing communications allow the box to be deepened. Measurements should be taken after the walls are leveled, but before the tiles are laid - this will allow the roller shutters to be attached to the wall.
The tile is further laid from the mounted structure to the doorway, while it turns out that the guide is recessed to the thickness of one tile, and the seam between the tile and the guide becomes invisible - only the convex side of the lamellas is visible.
If the walls are already leveled and the tiling in the bathroom has begun, you just need to clarify the requirements for the opening, take measurements and continue laying the tiles, and then mount the roller shutters.

In this case, measurements are made after laying the tiles on the side walls, and fastening is carried out on the tiles.
Installation with a box outside in the opening
In the case when the tiling of the walls has already been completed, the structure is slightly modified and installed on the tile. Installation of the structure in the opening reduces its useful width by twice the width of the guide (53 mm on both sides), and the useful height - by the height of the box.
In this case, in the case of a low opening, the box can select an unacceptable volume. So, if the initial height of the opening is 500 mm, then after the installation of the structure (the minimum size of the box is 137 mm, there are also boxes with sizes of 150, 165, 180 and 205 mm), the usable volume will be only 363 mm (500-137).
The size of the box is selected depending on the height of the opening, while with a higher height of the structure, the full opening of the opening will require a larger number of turns wound on the shaft.

Overlay installation is used when roller shutters are installed on a thin wall, for example, tiles laid on drywall. In this case, the box is placed only outside, and a lower guide is also added.
In this case, the height of the opening will not be reduced by the height of the box. The box is inserted into the guides from above, and there is no need to additionally fix the structure to the ceiling, so the result is a fairly simple and reliable box design.
Do-it-yourself installation of a roller shutter in a bathroom allows it to look more modern in terms of design, while installation of roller shutters requires a fairly limited workplace, and repair work does not require moving a washing machine or other items to gain access to the facility.
