When using a washing machine, sometimes there are cases when the washing process must be interrupted for various reasons, and the water remains in the drum. Consider what to do in this case, how to free the drum from water.
For example, let's look at some models.
In LG washing machines for draining water, the draining process begins with the "Power" button. To set the program after that, select the spin function. In the proposed spin options, select "No spin". The final step is the "Start" button. According to the task, the LG washing machine will drain the water.
Indesit (Indesit)
If you need to drain the water from the Indesit machine for reloading, you should use the program called "Drain Only" or "Drain Without Spin". In most models of the Indesit brand, for this, the switch knob is set to the "Drain" position. It is also possible to install the handle in the "Spin" position.
Samsung (Samsung)
Similarly, water is drained in Samsung machines. The selected program "Drain" or "Spin" allows you to free the drum from the water, after which it will be possible to open the door of the machine. Following the instructions, you can also perform an emergency drain of water from a Samsung machine using the emergency drain option. By opening the emergency drain filter, you can remove water using a special tube available in the machine.
How to change the pump in a Samsung washing machine
Due to inexperience, I started to disassemble the machine from the wrong end and unscrewed a lot of unnecessary things. But then it turned out that the easiest way is to put the machine on its side and just remove the bottom panel. The panel looks more like cardboard, but not made of paper, but of some kind of plastic. Personally, it reminds me of a sheet of polycarbonate from which greenhouses are made.

To remove it, you need to unscrew the screws with which it is attracted to the case (from the front side, where the filter cover is):
After the screws are loosened, the pump is held only by hoses and two electrical wires. The wires are pulled out of the connector, and in order to disconnect the hoses, you must first remove the clamps that hold them together. Hands will not work, because. they are very powerful, but some pliers or platypuses solve this problem with ease.
When you disconnect all the hoses, do not forget to immediately look into the one that leads to the tank. It may well be that your panties or sock are stuck in it (this, by the way, is another reason why the Samsung washing machine does not drain water). You can also shine a flashlight inside the tank. It is usually made of translucent plastic and any foreign objects are clearly visible through the light.
The removed pump is a symbiosis of two parts - an engine and a kind of snail with hose outlets (although it looks a little like a snail). It is clear that nothing can happen to the “snail”, it is just a piece of plastic of a cunning shape. So I was only interested in the engine. To disconnect it from the snail, you need to unscrew the three screws.
When the engine was in my hands, everything became clear. The engine was badly worn, the rotor dangled like a pencil in a glass, touching the walls. Hence that rattling sound during operation and a sharp drop in performance. In general, there was no doubt - the engine must be replaced.
When I arrived at our local shop that sells washing machine parts, the salesman, as soon as he looked at the engine, immediately said, “Samsung?” and got a new engine out of the big box. At first glance, it was an exact copy of what I brought as a sample.Only the model name was different:
From the words of the seller, I realized that 99% of Samsungs have approximately the same pumps and they are all interchangeable. And exactly the same pumps are installed on most automatic washing machines Indesit, Ariston, Bosch, Siemens, Siltal, Zanussi, Electrolux, Candy, Whirlpool, AEG and LG! In general, I got the impression that you can go to the store and just buy the first pump that comes across and it will almost certainly fit.
Initially, I had an Askoll Mod.M47, Art.292261, Cod.DC31-30008D, 220-240V, 0.2A, 30W engine, and they sold me - Askoll, Mod.M231 XP, Art.296003, Cod.296003, 220- 240V, 0.2A, 40W.
On the Internet, I managed to find a list of Samsung washing machine models where any of these engines will fit. I bring this table here (under the spoiler).
Already at home, I noticed that the rear of the new engine (M231) was made differently from the original (M47):
Due to these differences, it is not possible to put the protective cover back. So there were no spare parts. But it seems to me that this is not critical, because. the casing was somehow flimsy, fastened on a single screw, and its purpose remained a mystery to me. By the way, here it is:
And one moment
It is very important to correctly connect the engine to the "snail" so that the hose outlets are directed in the right directions, and the pump itself does not rest against the tank shock absorbers. At first, of course, I assembled it incorrectly, but when I installed the pump inside the washer, I immediately realized my mistake

It is better to first put on the rubber hoses and connect the wires, and only then screw the pump to the body of the washing machine. Otherwise, then you will not be able to crawl to the right places, there is not as much space as it seems at first glance.
Tip: when replacing the pump motor, you can try not to disconnect the rubber hoses at all and not unscrew the pump from the front of the washing machine. Instead, you just need to unscrew the old engine from the "snail" and screw on the new one instead. Then the whole repair will take no more than half an hour.
As a result, after several trials and errors, I managed to put everything together as it should and my efforts were not in vain - the 5E error disappeared, the machine drains water perfectly, and the terrible sound during draining disappeared. I am so glad that I was not afraid of difficulties and decided to repair my washing machine myself!
Total costs: 850 rubles for a new motor for the pump and a few hours of time. So, if your Samsung washing machine does not drain water and gives a 5E error, take an example from me and do not overpay for repairs!
How to drain the remaining water from the washing machine
It is not always possible to free the machine from water using automatic draining without performing the spin function.
There are several options with which you can manually drain the water.
Draining methods
With a water drain hose
If you use the drain hose, you can easily remove water from the machine. Carefully study the device of your machine according to the instructions. If the drain hose is not secured inside the machine in a loop, this method can be used. Release the hose from the fasteners on the rear panel, lay it so that it is below the water tank. The hose must be disconnected from the sewer, so you need to prepare a container for draining water.
Using a drain filter
The instruction for the user will tell you where the filter is used when draining the water. So it will be easy to find even behind the decorative panel.
By opening the panel and slightly opening the filter itself, you can drain the water from the washing machine. Do not forget: the filter handle is turned counterclockwise to open it. Water will pour out even into the ajar hatch; it will not need to be fully opened.
Using the drain pipe
If you decide to use the drain pipe, did all the manipulations, and the water did not flow out of the filter even when it was fully opened - this is a signal! The machine thus informs you that the drain pipe is clogged. In this case, you can not do without cleaning it. To access the nozzle, first of all, you will need to remove the back panel of the machine. Drain - A small corrugated tube is located under the drum of the machine.
Now you need to disconnect the pipe from the pump.A clamp is used for fastening; when removing it, the pipe is also removed without much difficulty. Free the pipe from blockage, so you can drain the water and return the machine to working capacity.
With the option "Emergency drain"
Manufacturers of some washing machines (for example, Samsung) have prudently equipped the unit with an emergency drain program. In this case, it is also necessary to open a decorative panel that hides a special drain tube. The tube is easily pulled forward, and the water begins to come out immediately after removing the plug cap.
Directly from the drum
If the washing machine is designed in such a way that the drum door does not block when water is inside, then you can remove it by opening the door to load the laundry.
In machines with vertical loading, in order to scoop out water, we use some kind of container: a jar, a ladle, a mug. With horizontal loading, this method is possible, first of all, with a small amount of water that remains in the drum.
Procedure
Regardless of which method you decide to use to drain the water from the washing machine, you should act in a certain order. Compliance with it will allow you to perform the procedure for draining water safely.
Action algorithm:
- Disconnecting the machine from the electrical network.
- Preparation of improvised means: basin, rags.

Faulty drain pump
The operation of the drain pump can be determined by the characteristic sound. If the water is in the tank and the pump does not start in the drain mode, one of the reasons may be a malfunction of the pump motor. To determine the malfunction, the pump should be removed and using a tester, check the motor winding for breaks and short circuits. Most often, pumps have a non-separable design, and in the event of a breakdown, the entire pump assembly changes.
Faulty water level sensor
Incorrect operation of the pressure switch can cause incorrect information about the water level in the washing tub to be sent to the electronic unit. The machine “thinks” that there is not enough liquid or not at all, and the drain does not occur. A blockage in the tube connecting the sensor to the washing tub can also lead to a malfunction of the sensor. For cleaning it is necessary to remove the top cover of the unit, disconnect the tube and remove the blockage. If, when checking the sensor, it turns out that it is faulty, it also changes entirely.
Faulty control module
The reason for the lack of a drain may be software failures or failure of electronics elements. In this case, the repair must be carried out by a qualified craftsman using the necessary tools and accessories.
TEN does not work
If the machine does not drain the water in the rinse mode and gives an error with the termination of washing, the heating element may be faulty. On Ariston units, a malfunction is signaled by all the lights flashing orange in an emergency. After replacing the heating element, the washing machine functions normally.
Method 4 - directly by opening the hatch
If the previous methods did not help you drain the water from the broken washing machine, you can try to “solve the problem head on” - open the door and manually scoop out the water from the drum.
Procedure
- if the water level in the machine is higher than the lower edge of the hatch, tilt the washing machine back and gently lean against the wall so that water does not spill onto the floor when the door is opened;
- open the washing machine door;
- scoop out water with a ladle, mug or jar.
Of course, this method is not very convenient: it is long, does not allow you to completely remove all the water, and, moreover, the car door can be locked even after disconnecting from the mains.
Removing water from the washing machine
Method number 1 Through the drain hose
Without exception, all automatic machines are equipped with a hose for the outflow of liquid into the sewerage system.If you find that the water is not draining, you need to inspect the drain hose and make sure that it does not have kinks or blockages.
If the hose is connected to the sewer system, it is necessary to disconnect them, and then remove it from the retaining latches on the back cover. After that, the end of the hose should be placed in a previously prepared container (basin, bucket) and make sure that the end of the hose is below the water level in the machine tank. This way you can drain all the water from the tank, except for units whose hoses have a loop to prevent water from draining.
Method number 2 Through the drain filter
There is a drain filter on the bottom of each unit. Its main purpose is to prevent foreign objects from entering the drain pump. During periodic maintenance of the washing unit, the drain filter is unscrewed, after which buttons, rivets and other trifles that are accidentally left in the pockets of clothes are removed from it.
In addition, it is necessary to drain the remaining water through the filter when leaving the washing unit for the winter in an unheated dacha.
The filter is the lowest point of the system, therefore, by draining the liquid through it, you can almost completely free the washing unit from liquid residues. To remove the filter, turn it counterclockwise a few turns and pull it towards you. Beforehand, you should place a container with low sides under the filter opening or put a piece of rag to collect liquid. If there is laundry left in the machine, it must be removed and wait until all the liquid has drained.
Method number 3 Through an emergency hose
Most manufacturers equip their units with a special additional hose for draining water in case of an emergency. To remove water, you need to get an emergency hose (usually located under a protective cover), place the end of the hose in a previously prepared container and open the valve or tap located at its end (on some models, plastic plugs are installed at the end of the hose). The process will be completed when the fluid stops flowing from the hose.
Method number 4 Directly by opening the hatch
When there is a need for a quick drain of water, the problem is solved by simply opening the hatch. In machines with vertical loading, you can scoop water from the tank using any container (scoop, mug). The main thing is that it passes freely into the loading opening of the drum. When draining through the loading hatch, you must first tilt the washing unit back, substitute a special container and only then open the hatch. It happens that even after disconnecting the washing machine from the mains, the hatch does not open. In such a situation, you should not make excessive efforts to open it. Method number 5 Through the drain pipe
The drain pipe is located inside the washing machine and connects the drain pump and the machine tank. In fact, the drain pipe is a corrugated hose. Over time, it can become clogged and prevent water from entering the pump. In this case, repair is not enough. In order to get to the drain pipe, depending on the type of unit, it is necessary to remove the front or the side and rear covers.
To the tank and pump, the pipe is attached with clamps. They must be loosened and pulled to the side. Before removing, substitute a container from below. Then pull the branch pipe in the direction opposite to the tank and the pump housing. Removal must be done effortlessly.
If the hose cannot be removed, you can carefully pry it off with a screwdriver. After removal, it is best to wash the corrugation well, removing blockage and various deposits.
