What section of wire is needed for a washing machine

Installing a washing machine

The choice of the washing machine is made, it is bought and delivered home. We unpack, inspect for external damage, scratches, cracks, etc. If everything is in order, then shake it a little - you should not hear any knocks. If, nevertheless, knocks are heard, it means that some part is loose or even unscrewed. Then immediately return the car to the store. And in no case do not succumb to the persuasion, persuasion of the seller or the delivery man that these are natural sounds. But I hope you got a working car.

Let's start installing the washing machine. We remove the packaging, remove the transport bolts. Usually there are three of them, but for greater certainty it is better to look at the instructions. It is impossible to turn on the machine without removing the transport bolts, it may break. So, unscrew the bolts, remove the back panel, pull out the latches. If there are bars, brackets, some other fasteners, we remove them too.

We put the car in place. Be sure to align it, otherwise the machine will jump and vibrate strongly during the spin cycle. The first way: we lift the washing machine, resting it on the front legs, in this case the rear ones should come off the floor. Then lower it into place - the legs should themselves stand in the right position. Let's check the level to see if we succeeded. If not, apply the second method. We will buy a special tool in the hardware store, with which we align the height of the legs so that the bottom of the machine is strictly horizontal. You can use the third method, using improvised items, such as blocks, pieces of wood, etc. But it is better to refrain from this method and try to do everything “scientifically”. If the floor during the repair was leveled, then it is enough to screw the legs into the machine to the minimum height until it stops. After the legs are aligned, tighten the nuts to the machine body.

Connecting the washing machine to the water supply

When connecting to the water supply, it is advisable to install the following devices.

  • Filter for water purification. The water in our pipes is far from clean, therefore, in order to protect the mechanisms of the machine and extend their service life, we will install a filter, at least a coarse one.
  • Stopcock. Necessary installation of machines in which there is no protection against leaks. The faucet turns on before washing, supplying water, and turns off when it is finished. According to European standards, the stopcock must be installed above the washing machine. However, this is very laborious and irrational. Therefore, it is enough to put a tap under the sink, at the point where the washing machine is connected to the water supply. It is better to choose a ball valve with a ball of the largest diameter.

What section of wire is needed for a washing machineDirect connection to the water supply is as follows. A tee coupling cuts into the cold water pipe leading to the sink, to which a filter, a stopcock and a hose supplying water to the washing machine are connected.

Please note that the pipe supplying water to the washing machine must be galvanized, or plastic, or a flexible hose, otherwise, if the pipe is rough, rusty water will enter the machine

We connect the drain to the washing machine

What section of wire is needed for a washing machineThe easiest way to organize a drain is to make an outflow of water into the bath. To do this, a special hook is attached to the edge of the bathtub, on which the drain hose of the washing machine is hung. In this case, the water will drain directly into the bath, respectively, all the dirt that comes out with the water during washing will settle on the bottom of the bath. You have to wash it often. In general, a simple, but not very aesthetic way.

It is better to use the second method and organize the discharge of water directly into the sewer. We install a siphon on the sink with an additional outlet for draining water with a bypass valve. The height of the tie-in to the sewer must be at least 50 cm. The bypass valve may fail, then the hose is lifted up so that it is higher than the sink, and a bend is made to the tie-in.

Connecting electricity to the car

As with connecting other devices in the bathroom, connecting the washing machine requires special attention. Electricity is a serious thing, so you need to be extremely careful when working, but it’s better to call an electrician.

We will determine the place where the outlet will be located. It should be located outside the bath. Or it is possible to use a special socket designed for installation in wet rooms with a high degree of protection. The cord of the washing machine should reach the outlet without much effort. Connection using extension cords and adapters is not allowed. If your cord does not reach the outlet, contact the service center and request that the cord be replaced with a longer one. Washing machines of the past generation consumed much less power than modern machines, so double insulation was used in them to protect against electric shock, this was enough. In modern machines, this protection will be grounding. If you're sure your electrical outlet is grounded, you can simply plug the cord into a grounded outlet. If not, then we perform grounding using an automatic machine and an RCD or a differential switch

When choosing these devices, it is important to know the current strength and the amount of current leakage or residual current. The current value must be greater than in the washing machine, 16 A is enough

The value of the differential current is usually taken as 10 A. This is a small value, but it is guaranteed that you will not receive an electric shock. We connect a three-core cable to the outlet, strictly connecting the corresponding wires, guided by color prompts. We connect the cable to the differential switch, which we insert into the shield. More precisely, it is done by an electrician.
