Finishing the ceiling is one of the most difficult stages of repair, since the overall appearance of the interior of each room and the entire apartment depends on the final result. When choosing what to stick on the ceiling in the hallway, kitchen, bathroom, children's room, living room, study, bedroom, you need to study the performance characteristics of the materials. This will help create a special atmosphere in each room and a suitable microclimate that is comfortable for all inhabitants.
When should the ceiling surface be pasted over? There are many other finishing options, but stretch and slatted ceilings are quite expensive, and the surface must be very carefully leveled for painting. Therefore, sometimes the best choice is materials for gluing, which have an affordable cost and do not require too painstaking preparation.
Living room
In the hall - the central room of the apartment, a place for family vacations and receiving guests - when decorating the ceiling, you can apply the most daring design ideas. Interesting options are shown in the photo below. Popular sticking materials:

- mirror tiles;

You can also choose paper wallpapers, but gluing them to the ceiling on your own is not the most pleasant experience. The main rule that must be observed when installing any coating is a combination of color and texture with the rest of the interior elements: wall and floor coverings, furniture, decor.
Non-woven wallpaper
There are several varieties of non-woven wallpaper:
- for painting;
- smooth;
- embossed.
Canvases with a color pattern, patterns, embossing are presented in abundance, which are suitable for the interior of a living room in Provence, Oriental, Classical, Folklore styles. The ceiling looks picturesque, finished with smooth wallpaper with inserts of floral print coatings.
Non-woven wallpaper for ceilings is distinguished by such qualities as:
- environmental friendliness;
- vapor permeability;
- ease of installation;
- resistance to UV radiation;
- durability;
- ease of care;
- fire resistance;
- the ability to withstand large mechanical loads arising from the shrinkage of the building.
For a spacious hall with a high ceiling, embossed canvases designed in soothing colors are suitable. Dark shades are acceptable in a room on the sunny side in combination with light wall coverings and a large number of artificial light sources.
Advice. In a living room of less than 20 m² with a low ceiling in Khrushchev, it is better to glue light, smooth wallpaper or material for painting. Thus, it is possible to change the interior from time to time, repainting the ceiling in a different color.
Non-woven textile wallpaper
Such wallpapers look chic in the interior of the living room, but they are difficult to work with and are expensive. They are quite easy to spoil if the technology is not followed carefully enough, so it is better to turn to professionals.
You can choose textile wallpapers that imitate fabrics such as:
- satin;
- chintz;
- linen;
- jute;
- silk;
- velours;
- velvet;
- brocade;
- felt;
- synthetic fabrics.
Important! Ceiling wallpapers of all kinds can be glued to the prepared ceiling or to the primed surface of the elements of the suspended plasterboard structure.
Ceiling tiles
A variety of design solutions is distinguished by ceiling tiles from:
- expanded polystyrene;
- polyvinyl chloride (PVC).
Expanded polystyrene tiles are made from foamed synthetic material and are embossed square or rectangular products. There is regular and seamless tile.
- Standard tiles are distinguished by smooth edges with edging around the perimeter.
- Seamless tiles have slightly curved, sinuous edges, which, after installation, become almost invisible against the background of the relief. Such material is suitable for facing the ceiling in a small low living room.
Advice. Before installation, it is recommended to paint the expanded polystyrene tiles in order to simplify the cleaning procedure in the future, since the cladding quickly absorbs dust, which is practically impossible to remove.

Mirror tiles
Mirror ceiling tiles look extremely impressive in the interior of the living room, which is glued or fixed on a suspended plasterboard structure with screws with rubber gaskets. You can choose elements of various shades - golden, silver, blue, smoky, green, pink, gray, lilac. It is not necessary to fill the entire surface, the central part of the ceiling lined with mirror tiles or curly inserts around the perimeter in combination with matte tiles or wallpaper looks elegant.
Bedroom, children's
The ceiling in the bedroom and the nursery can be finished with non-woven or textile wallpaper, expanded polystyrene tiles.
It is advisable to choose coatings of gentle calm tones with a soft pattern. In a small room, a canvas with a floral pattern looks great.
Kitchen
For lining the ceiling in the kitchen, materials are needed that can withstand humid air, sudden temperature changes, and increased vaporization. The surface has to be washed periodically with the use of aggressive compounds to remove greasy soot stains and splashes formed when the oil boils, so strength and resistance to chemicals are important. These properties are different:
- non-woven vinyl wallpaper;
- plastic panels;
- polystyrene ceiling tiles.
Important! Facing materials can be mounted directly on the ceiling, having previously prepared the surface, or pasted over the elements of a multi-level plasterboard construction.
Choosing vinyl ceiling wallpaper on a non-woven basis, it is desirable to give preference to canvases made of smooth or hard vinyl, which have a high density, moisture resistance, air and vapor permeability, and resistance to aggressive substances. Foamed vinyl wallpaper and silk screen printing do not have these qualities.
Plastic panels fit perfectly into the interior of any kitchen. They are affordable, easy to install, and can withstand cleaning agents. When buying, you must read the accompanying documents, which describe their performance characteristics, including resistance to heat and the absence of toxic substances.
Ceiling tiles are affordable, easy to install, do not require special skills, but absorb soot and dirt. A soiled fragment is easy to replace, but with a large footage it will cause significant problems, so it is better to choose a different cladding method.
Hallway
The hallway is rightfully recognized as the dirtiest place in the apartment. For this reason, the entire room, including walls, hangers, ceiling, needs regular thorough cleaning. For facing the ceiling surface, it is desirable to use vinyl wallpaper or plastic panels that can withstand wet cleaning.
Bathroom, toilet, balcony
Bathroom, toilet and balcony are areas where air humidity reaches critical values.Ceilings in these rooms should not only have high moisture resistance, strength, but also resist the formation of mold, as well as protect the apartment from leaks. An ideal option for decorating a bathroom and toilet is a stretch ceiling. If for some reason it is not available, you should consider materials such as:
- plastic panels;
- slatted ceilings;
- PVC film;
- vinyl wallpapers,
- tile or mosaic.
To finish the balcony ceiling, it is better to use plastic panels or lining.
