Direct suspension for drywall and with traction: factory and homemade

Drywall hangers are an important element of many drywall constructions. These products are used for reliable fixation of profiles on the bearing surface when leveling walls with GKL and GVL sheets, for laying insulating materials, creating simple and multi-level suspended ceilings. There are several types of suspensions that differ from each other and are used in different situations.

Hangers for plasterboard profiles

direct suspension

Direct suspension for drywall, in the form of a metal plate made of galvanized steel with perforations and cutouts, is the most common type of product. Despite the small thickness (0.6-0.8 mm), it is quite durable. Reinforced brackets with a thickness of 1 mm and a length of 0.2 m to 0.5 m are also used. They are used to level collapsed walls with a large level difference, when laying communications behind false walls or with a large thickness of insulation.

Separately, we can mention vibration suspensions, supplemented with an elastic rubber element, which excludes contact between the base and the profile, due to which the transmission of structural noise to the frame is significantly reduced. They are used when high-quality soundproofing of the structure is required.

Installers often splice short hangers together, and to increase the load-bearing capacity, they are attached more often. But the reduction in price is not achieved.

Classic straight hangers

  • Hangers for plasterboards are attached to the wall or ceiling with dowels or self-tapping screws in 2 or 3 places, after which they bend and take a U-shape. The type of fastener depends on the material of the bearing surface.
  • A profile is mounted on the suspensions with small self-tapping screws for metal with a flat wide hat (“bugs”). As a result, a small space is formed under the frame, where communications, heat or noise insulation, wiring are laid, sockets, switches and lamps are mounted.

Hangers allow you to create a gap of up to 12 cm, and products of a shortened type - no more than 7.5 cm.

For walls, the size of the gap depends on the thickness of the insulation or sound insulation panels, which is about 5 cm. They can also be used on the ceiling, but the dimensions of the built-in lamps must also be taken into account there. For them, a margin of up to 10–12.5 cm is left, which is associated not only with their dimensions, but also with the need to remove the heat generated, for example, from halogen lamps.

When installing a false ceiling, special fasteners are indispensable

Fastening

Drill holes in the wall or ceiling for fasteners.

Important! Only metal dowels or anchors are suitable for the ceiling, since plastic ones are pulled out under the action of a constant load.

  • The brackets are attached to the wall or ceiling, after which the sides are bent at a right angle.
  • Then profiles are installed in the same plane and level.
  • The protruding "ears" are bent to the sides.

With low ceilings, it is advisable to glue the sheets to the ceiling on a special putty or a mixture of gypsum diluted with water and 2% bone glue.

Suspension with traction

Sometimes it is required to lower the ceiling by up to 0.5 m. There may be several reasons:

  • laying communications;
  • installation of a ventilation duct;
  • installation of a multi-level ceiling.

In these cases, wire-drawn hangers are used. It is difficult to do without them when creating structures with several levels. The device is a butterfly-shaped spring into which 2 steel rods 4 mm thick are inserted.

The simplest adjustable false ceiling mount

For installation in the ceiling, drill 1 hole and fix the wire in it on an anchor or metal dowel. To do this, a loop is made at one end of the wire. A profile is hung from below to the rod by a hook, which should be pressed with pliers.

The step of placing the suspensions depends on the load: each has no more than 25 kg.It is easy to calculate the weight of the structure: a standard 9.5 kg drywall sheet with dimensions of 1200 x 2500 mm weighs 22 kg. One standard anchor can withstand the same amount.

Profile height can be adjusted. To do this, click on the butterfly. In the released state, it firmly holds the rods.

Experts consider this design insufficiently reliable. Holding the structure with two curved shelves does not create a rigid fastening: the springs slip under the action of the load. It is impossible to re-adjust the drywall construction due to the lack of access to the fasteners. A more perfect option is an anchor hanger with a clamp and traction.

Homemade suspensions

You can make a homemade suspension from a ceiling guide profile. To do this, a piece is taken and the side faces are cut. Then it is folded at an angle of 900, after which the overlap is cut through and a hard corner is obtained, which is called a boot. One part of it is attached to the ceiling or wall, and the other to the profile.

Another option is to cut and bend it into a U-shape, and then attach the sole to the ceiling, and the ears to the profile. The design allows you to place the frame at a great distance from the ceiling.

Another design is obtained by cutting out a part of the back of the ceiling profile along the edges, and then bending the sides and fixing them to the ceiling. The lower part is attached to the profile.

How many hangers do you need?

The number of hangers depends on their bearing capacity, which is 25 kg per 1 piece. for ordinary and 40 kg - for reinforced. The distance between the profiles is 60 cm. In this case, the distance from each wall should be 300 mm. The frontal offset along the length of the profiles is from 0.7 to 1 m. Here you can already select the number of hangers according to the bearing capacity.

Conclusion

Mounting the frame for drywall made easier by the use of hangers. The most popular is the direct suspension, which is suitable for walls and ceilings. Depending on the complexity of the ceilings, various suspension devices are used on rods with springs or do-it-yourself devices made from the remnants of the ceiling profile.
