Drywall has long been a very popular material. At present, it is widely used in construction. In many ways, this popularity is due to the fact that no special, specific drywall tool is required. Any master has most of the necessary things: a tape measure, a screwdriver, a drill, a grinder, etc. There are not so many tools that are used exclusively when working with gypsum boards and nowhere else. However, in general, the list is impressive. So, what does the master need to carry out all the stages of work?
For markup
Before starting to create structures from drywall, craftsmen perform markup. This requires a specific tool:
- A plumb line is a cord at the end of which a load is fixed. It is necessary to check the verticals.
- Painting (chopping) cord for drawing straight lines on the wall.
- Level - a metal bar in which small containers with liquid are installed, in which an air bubble floats. It is used to check the correctness of horizontals and verticals.

- A ruler may be needed for small areas.

Working with a profile
At the next stage, the frame is assembled from metal profiles. To work with them, you will need electric and hand tools. From the power tool you will need:
- Perforator is the "king of montage". Without it, it is better not to start assembling the frame, since only he can punch the necessary holes in the walls and ceiling. To install the frame, you need to make a lot of mounting holes, so you should not save. And you don’t need to try to replace the hammer drill with an impact drill either: its impact function is additional, it is not designed for heavy loads and can quickly fail.
- Drilling may be required. It all depends on the type and characteristics of the base.
- In most cases, the profiles are connected to each other using self-tapping screws for metal. A screwdriver will help you quickly and easily wrap them.
To speed up the process, you can use a special nozzle on a screwdriver to automatically feed self-tapping screws.
- Bulgarian (aka angle grinder) is necessary for cutting off pieces of the profile. Its analogue can be a circular saw for metal.
There is a little more manual tool for the drywall profile:
- A hammer will be needed to drive the dowels into the mounting holes in the walls and on the ceiling and floor. You need to choose a comfortable and moderately heavy model. Usually good craftsmen even have a few hammers at home.
- Metal shears are necessary for cutting profiles.
- A saw for metal with a diamond blade can become an analogue of a grinder, if one is not at hand, it can also cut profiles into pieces of the required length. But it will take much more time and effort, therefore, with large amounts of work, it is better to stop at a power tool.
- Cutters are used for connecting profiles to each other, as well as for punching technological holes in profiles and partitions (for example, for laying wires). This drywall tool is only gaining popularity.
- Using special pliers, you can connect 2 profiles with rivets. This method is also used infrequently, so an amateur home master should not be puzzled by the search and acquisition of such mites.
Processing drywall sheets
GKL also require specific processing.It is unlikely that someone will be so lucky that the entire frame will be closed with whole sheets. Most likely, drywall will have to be cut, leveled, chamfered, etc.
- The electric jigsaw is the main tool for curly cutting drywall. With it, you can make a wave, a zigzag or any other geometric (and not only) figure from the GKL, while the edge will be even and will not crumble.
- You can cut in a straight line with a jigsaw or a drywall knife. A paint knife is also suitable, the most important thing is that it is sharp and strong and can cut through thick cardboard. It is advisable to make the cut not by hand, but along the drawn line (it is even better to attach a ruler so that the knife goes smoothly).
- Edging and peeling planer will be needed for the final processing of drywall blanks: leveling the edge, cleaning the edges, chamfering.
- You can make small holes for the wires using a drill with a special nozzle-crown for drywall.
- A drywall needle roller is used when the sheet needs to be curved, for example to create an arch. GCR is abundantly moistened and rolled with a spiked roller so that moisture quickly soaks the surface and penetrates inside, and the drywall becomes pliable and does not break.
Tool for attaching plasterboard to the frame
In this case, not much is needed: a screwdriver with suitable bits and self-tapping screws for drywall. It will be more convenient and faster to work if you buy a nozzle for automatic feeding of screws.
Advice. It makes sense to pay attention to special bits with limiters that will not allow you to overtighten the screws.
Hats are not always recessed flush with the drywall surface or a little deeper. To finally bring the self-tapping screws to an ideal state, they must be tightened in places manually, for this you need a screwdriver.
If the work is carried out alone, then it is advisable to invest in a drywall lift. Especially if it is mounted on the ceiling. This device will lift and hold the sheet in position. The perfect helper.
As you can see, the tool for installing drywall requires the most diverse. However, a good craftsman always has most of the tools at hand, and it is not necessary to buy electrical appliances: such a service as renting or renting the same hammer drills is now widespread.
